Loughborough Boat Club

The National Watersports Centre at Holme Pierrepont provided the setting for four wins for Loughborough Boat Club at their own regatta, attended by the Mayor of Charnwood, Councillor Mike Jones. The event, held jointly with the National Veterans Regatta, attracted its biggest ever entry with more than 550 entries in total and 169 races taking place at four minute intervals throughout the day over the six lane 1000m course.

Kerry Trembling took the Women’s Novice Single Sculls in convincing style. Having won through to the final she had squeezed ahead of her closest Derby rival by 2 seconds at the half way mark but then turned up the pressure to win by an impressive 7 second margin.

Marie Guingouain added another sculling win to her collection when she won the Women’s Senior 2 Single Sculls by a 3 second margin, again beating a Derby sculler into second place.

Trembling and Guingouain joined other Club members Katja Lange and Katy Smith in the Women’s Senior 3 Quad and made it a double win for the day. They commanded the race from start to finish to achieve an easy victory over Swansea .

Nick Logan continued to show good form as he won the Men’s Senior 2 Single Sculls and just missed out in the Senior 1 event. In a hard fought Senior 2 final he gained an early advantage and managed to maintain a one second lead throughout the race over the second placed Nottingham Boat Club sculler.
