Katy Williams just missed out on managing a repeat of her win at Nottingham Scullers’ Head when she came home second in the Women’s Novice Single Sculls. However, Perse Wynn did manage to repeat her Nottingham victory in the Women’s Veteran C Single Sculls with one of the biggest margins of the day of 1min 31 secs over her Hollingworth Lake opposition.
Pete Thorp and Kevin Rimington also had a convincing win, this time over Derby, in the Men’s Senior 4 Double Sculls with a time of 14mins 30secs. The nearest miss of the day for a Loughborough crew came for the Men’s Novice Double of Nick Firth and Nick Logan. In their first race together they put in a promising performance, finishing in 14mins 16secs just 6 secs behind the event winners.
The Women’s Senior 3 Quad of Sarah Mee, Marie Guingouain, Katja Lange and Katy Williams were the fastest women’s crew of the day in a time of 13mins 44secs. Sarah Mee gained a further victory in the Women’s Senior 2 Single Sculls in a time of 16mins 2 secs, confirming that she is in a strong position in her bid to gain selection for the GB Squad. Mee has come in third place in the Under 23 Lightweight category in the two national trials held so far this winter, and also picked up a bronze medal in the British Indoor Rowing Championships in the same category and a silver in the Student event with a 2000 metre time of 7mins 25.5secs.
