Loughborough Boat Club
The Club’s Women’s Eight turned in a positive performance in the run
up to this weekend’s Women’s Head of the River Race on the
Thames
. The 6000m Trent Head in Nottingham attracts the biggest entry in the country
apart from the Thames races so is an important step on the way to the
Thames
race. However, the weather conditions, with strong gusty winds, were so bad
that many of the smaller boats were forced to withdraw. The crew of Katja Lange
at bow, Caroline Lomax, Katy Smith, Natalie Miles, Rebecca Rowe, Lucinda Bowden,
Elaine Johnstone and stroke Marie Guingouain, coxed by Carly Bilsbrough battled
against the conditions to achieve third place in the Women’s Senior 3 category
in a time of 22 mins 29 secs. Many of the crew are relatively new to rowing so
finishing ahead of a number of far more experienced crews means they are
well-placed to put in a good performance on the Thames,
Another Club member putting in a good performance is single sculler Sarah
Mee. Following three sets of open trials for the GB squad, she has been selected
for the final trials in mid-April. Mee will be fighting for a place in the
Women’s Lightweight Under 23 squad and a chance to represent
Great Britain
in World events.
