Loughborough Boat Club

Loughborough Boat Club had an excellent start to the regatta season at Nottingham City Regatta renowned to be one of the most competitive events on the circuit held over the six lane course at the National Watersports Centre at Holme Pierrepont.

On the first day of the two-day event, raced over 2000 metres, the Club’s Women’s Senior 2 Quad Scull started with a comfortable win in their heat 15 seconds ahead of second placed Llandaff. When it came to the final Marie Guingouain, Lucinda Bowden, Sarah Mee and Elaine Johnstone improved their heat time by nine seconds to win in 7 mins 9 secs, 13 seconds ahead of the field.

Guingouain and Mee then teamed up in the final of the Women’s Elite Double Sculls. They gained an early advantage over Nottingham and Union with a 4 second lead after just 500 metres which they comfortably maintaining until the finish line. 

On the second day of racing the Senior 2 Quad was successful again – this time with Kerry Trembling coming into the crew to replace Mee. With racing taking place over the shorter 1000 metre course they were fighting it out with X-Press and Henley at the 500 metre point but then managed to pull ahead to gain a 5 second lead by the line.

Two of the Club’s juniors also came home with a win. Rosey Dixon and Isobel Jones were neck and neck with nearest opponents York City at the half way stage of the Women’s Junior 16 Double Sculls but took a 4 second lead by the finish.
