Loughborough Boat Club
Loughborough Boat Club’s Marie Guingouain continued to show excellent form as she collected a total of three wins at the Club’s own regatta at Holme Pierrepont. The event, which is held jointly with the UK Veteran Championships, attracted hundreds of entries drawing competitors from as far afield as Belfast and St Andrews and was attended by Charnwood Mayor Councillor Debbie Green.
Guingouain’s first victory of the day came in the number three seat of the Women’s Senior 2 Coxed Fours. Together with stroke Caroline Lomax, Jo Coulson at two and Mary Carswell at bow, and cox Kevin Carswell, they got off the start well and immediately gained an edge on their competitors on the six lane 1000m course. Nearest rivals Warwick kept the pressure on all the way but the Loughborough crew responded well to each challenge and crossed the line five seconds ahead.

Next up for Guingouain was the Women’s Senior 1 Quad Sculls with Emily Clarke, Fiona Richmond and Sarah Mee. Despite the windy conditions, they settled into a good rhythm and quickly gained a commanding lead over Weybridge, to go on to win by 17 seconds.
Guingouain and Mee then teamed up in the Women’s Senior 2 Double Sculls. They eased ahead of Stourport early in the race and steadily increased their lead to gain victory by an impressive 16 seconds.
Club Captain Keith Hudson commented, "Marie seems to have the magic touch at the moment – she is just winning everything she enters and I’m sure she’ll be picking up even more wins over the next few weeks."
