Loughborough Boat Club

Marie Guingouain, Mee’s double partner from the 2002 Henley win, also put in a winning performance, this time in the picturesque setting of the Ironbridge gorge. In the semi-final of the Women’s Senior 2 Single Sculls, Guingouain edged ahead of Lane from Derby , extending her lead comfortably over the 1000 metre course to reach the final against Prichard from Birmingham . The Birmingham sculler had the advantage in the first half of the race but then a strong push from Guingouain and the superior stamina of the Loughborough sculler paid off to give her a two and a half length advantage by the finish line.

Loughborough Boat Club gained their second victory of the day in the Women’s Veteran B Coxed Four. Caroline Lomax at stroke, Mary Carswell, Jo Coulson and Amanda Hibell at bow, coxed by Carly Bilsbrough got away to an excellent start in the final, quickly pulling ahead of their Warrington opposition, then steadily increased their lead to win by one and a half lengths.

In the Men’s Senior 3 Double Sculls, Ollie Kortlang and Neil Martin added to the Club’s tally in the shorter 500 metre sprint event. In a close final they had a half length lead coming into the last 100 metres when a steering error by their Huntingdon opponents gave the Loughborough double a comfortable win.
