Loughborough Boat Club
Loughborough Boat Club has continued its successful regatta season with more wins at Bewdley and Stourport Regattas.
At Bewdley the Men’s Veteran B Coxed Four of Jerome Mason, Chris Logan, Ollie Kortlang and James Stevenson, coxed by Charlie Horner, produced a double win over the two-day event. On the Saturday, over the 900 metre course, they beat off the challenge from home club Bewdley in the final and on the Sunday, over the shorter sprint course, they again gained victory but this time over Worcester.
Marcus Joy also won the sprint event in Men’s Senior 4 Single Sculls when he put in a strong performance in the final against his Reading opposition.
The Club added a further four wins to the season’s total at Stourport Regatta. This time it was Sarah Mee and Marie Guingouain in the Women’s Senior 1 Double Sculls who delivered a double victory over both the 1100 and 600 metre courses. Over the longer course they beat Hereford by a convincing three and a half lengths and bettered this over the second day’s sprint course with a four length win over Stourport.
Other wins over the 1100 metre course included Ollie Kortlang who gained his first single sculls win at Senior 4 level. He had comfortable wins over Stourport and Reading scullers to come up against Dorrell from Stourport in the final. He used his power to quickly pull away from his opponent and had an impressive four length lead by the finish line. Kortlang missed out on a double the following day when he lost by just two feet to Turner of Liverpool Victoria.
Sarah Mee also added to her wins in the Women’s Senior 2 Single Sculls. Having beaten Agecroft in the semi-final she faced Gray from Avon County in the final where she put in her usual determined effort to win by two and a half lengths.
