Loughborough Boat Club
Loughborough Boat Club have been adding to their early season wins at Nottingham City and Shrewsbury Regattas.
Emily Clarke put in an impressive performance over the 2000m Holme Pierrepont course at Nottingham City Regatta in the Women’s Senior 2 Single Sculls. Despite a relatively slow start and being in third place 500m in to the race, by the half way point she had taken over the lead from Moran of City of Sunderland. She then increased her lead to win by a margin of three seconds.
At Shrewsbury Regatta the Club added to their novice wins when Amy Lane had a convincing victory in Women’s Novice Single Sculls. Lane won through the early rounds against scullers from Ironbridge and Derby to come up against Leader from Burton Leander in the final. Lane pulled ahead early in the race and steadily increased her lead through the 600m sprint course to gain an ‘easy’ win over her opponent.
The Men’s Senior 2 Eight of Keith Hudson, Jerome Mason, Simon Hill, Andy Martin, Ollie Kortlang, Duncan Hindley, Chris Logan and James Stevenson, coxed by Amanda Hibbell came through the semi-final against Northwich with a one length lead and then found themselves battling it out in a tightly fought final against Stourport. The Loughborough crew managed to keep the pressure on and edged ahead late in the race to gain a half length victory.
In the longer 1000m events the Club gained a further two wins. Katja Lange never looked in trouble as she won through in the Women’s Junior 15 Single Sculls against Royal Chester and Queens Park High School and then beat Hallam from Derwent in the final. The Men’s Veteran B Coxed Four of Simon Hill, Keith Hudson, Andy Martin and Neil Martin, coxed by Danny Martin, also had a comfortable win in their final against Hollingworth Lake.
As Club Chairman, Kevin Carswell commented ‘These wins are a real reflection of the vibrancy of the Club at the moment with members competing at all levels and ages. We are confident of another good season ahead’.
