Loughborough Boat Club

Loughborough Boat Club completed the winter Head race season and started the summer regatta season with more wins.

At Northwich Head the club’s men’s squad picked up two wins. Keith Hudson at stroke, Chris Logan, Mike Lunn and Jerome Mason, coxed by Charlie Horner came home first in the Veteran B/C Handicap Coxed Fours in a time over the 2300m race of 9min 32secs, more than 30 seconds ahead of their nearest rivals even after the handicap adjustment had been made. In the Senior 4 Single Sculls, Marcus Joy beat off his closest opposition Dorrell from Stourport to gain a lead of 10 seconds over the same course.

At Leicester Regatta the Women’s squad matched the men’s achievement at Northwich by collecting two more wins. Pauline Barrett, awarded the trophy for the Club’s most promising rower just two weeks earlier, confirmed her potential by winning in the highly competitive Womens’ Novice Single Sculls. Pauline won through two early rounds against scullers from Derby and Leicester over the 750m city centre course. She then put in an impressive performance in the final against Hunt from Burton Leander and crossed the line 1½ lengths in front.

Sarah Mee showed that no longer being able to compete in junior events this season will not stop her adding to her imposing collection of wins. Sarah beat Barker from Ancholme easily on her way to the final of the Women’s Senior 2 Single Sculls where she came up against Nesbitt from St Neotts. Sarah put in an excellent display of high quality sculling to achieve a comfortable win.
