Loughborough Boat Club

Loughborough Boat Club managed to better last year’s performance at the Women's Eights Head of the River Race when they came home in 43rd place, two places ahead of their finishing spot last year. The race, which attracted over 270 entries, is run over the same course as the Oxford v. Cambridge Boat Race but in reverse - a gruelling 4¼ miles from Mortlake to Putney. With four experienced members from last year’s crew missing the result was particularly impressive in showing how successful the Club has been in bringing on new rowers.

The crew of Katja Lange at bow, Caroline Lomax, Katy Smith, Natalie Miles, Rebecca Rowe, Lucinda Bowden, Elaine Johnstone and stroke Marie Guingouain, were skilfully coxed by Carly Bilsbrough to make the most of the Thames stream. The Loughborough crew completed the course in 20 mins 22 secs which meant they came in as the first non-Thames Senior 3 Club crew.

Coach, George Jones said ‘This is a good result again for the Club, the crew have put in many hours of training over the winter and it has paid off. Their performance in the Eights Head shows the Club’s Women’s squad has the potential for another successful regatta season.’
