Loughborough Boat Club
Two of the
Loughborough Boat Club men’s junior squad attended
Leicester
regatta and came home having lost their novice status. 16 year old Chris Morris
teamed up with 18 year old Chris McAuley, who only started rowing last autumn,
to race in the Novice Double Sculls event over the 750 metre course. The
Loughborough crew gained an easy win in the semi-finals when home club Leicester
had steering problems on the narrow River Soar course and hit the side wall.
They then came up against
Peterborough
in the final. In their own words, “This last race went well, it was a tough
start but we kept the pressure on and gained more and more distance over them.
Although we won, we both agreed we could have given more so it’s looking
fairly promising we guess for senior racing.” As
well as taking home the usual tankards the pair will have their names engraved
on the impressive Leicester Regatta trophy.
