Loughborough Boat Club
This year’s trip to Northwich Regatta proved to be well worth the while for Loughborough Boat Club who came away with a total of six wins and some noteable first successes for some of the Loughborough squad.
Fifteen year old Louisa Kirk coxed the Men’s Senior 4 Four to victory in her first ever race and two of the crew, Nick Firth and Nick Ratcliffe also gained their first rowing wins. Together with Ollie Kortlang and Henry Yates they won through against Grosvenor and Agecroft to then beat Warrington in the final by a comfortable two lengths.
The Mens’ Veteran B Coxed Four of Keith Hudson, Andy Martin, Simon Hill and Neil Martin, coxed by Danny Martin, found themselves in a repeat of their final at the recent Shrewsbury event when they lined up against Hollingworth Lake. They managed to repeat their win gaining a length over their opposition by the time they reached the finish.
In the Women’s Senior 3 Single Sculls Marie Guingouain just managed to beat a local Northwich sculler to go through to then win the final against Grosvenor. Mary Carswell took an early lead against Singleton from Hollingworth Lake in the final of the Women’s Veteran C Single Sculls and finished over two lengths in front.
Carswell and Guingouain then joined up with Keith Hudson and Nick Firth in the Mixed Coxed 4 event, with Danny Martin in the cox’s seat. A win by half a length over Trafford gave each of the crew their second trophy of the day.
Two young Loughborough scullers found themselves facing each other in the final of the Women’s J16 Single Sculls with Amy Lane just managing to hold off the challenge from Carly Bilsborough. James Lane showed some excellent potential as he battled it out in a hard fought semi to win through to the final of the Men’s J14 Single Sculls in just his second competition.
The Loughborough crews will be out in force this weekend as they take on opposition from all over the UK at their own regatta, held jointly with the National Veterans Regatta, at Holme Pierrepont on Sunday.
