Loughborough Boat Club
The winter head race season has got off to a good start for Loughborough Boat Club with some fine performances in the Nottingham Sculling Head. Head races are run in a pursuit style with boats setting off at intervals and times recorded for each boat. The Nottingham event is run in two divisions over a four and a three mile course finishing near Trent Bridge. The recent heavy rain meant that the swollen river provided tough but fast racing conditions.
Emily Clarke completed the four mile course in 19 minutes 52 seconds to win the Women's Senior 3 Single Sculls. Her impressive performance gave her the added satisfaction of being the second fastest woman sculler of the day. Fiona Richmond, who also rows for Leicester, won the Women's Elite Single Sculls.
Two other Loughborough crews gained the fastest times in their categories. Emily Clarke and Anna Henderson in the Women's Senior 2 Double Sculls and Mary Carswell competing in the Women's Veteran C Single Sculls. Pauline Barratt achieved a promising third place in Women's Novice Single Sculls.
The Club has been pleased to welcome a number of new members over the last few weeks who have been attracted to the sport by the British rowing successes in the Olympics. A new website has been set up to make sure anyone interested can easily find out more about the Club. It can be found at www.loughboroughboatclub.co.uk
