Loughborough Boat Club

Loughborough Boat Club picked up their first ever win for a Women's Quad at Bedford head last Sunday.

A scheme set up by the East Midlands region of the Amateur Rowing Association lends boats to clubs without the necessary equipment and LBC collected the quad just three weeks ago with Women's Henley in June and the National Championships in July as the aim.

The crew of Tess Gaunt, Emily Clarke, Rachel Scott and Sarah Mee completed the 2000m race in 7 mins 25 secs, six seconds ahead of their nearest rivals Derwent.

Bedford provides one of the biggest head races of the season, attracting over 550 strong entries so wins at such an event are a good omen for further success during the regatta season.

The Club gained a further win in Women's Senior 1 Single Sculls when Anna Henderson came home in 8 mins 42 secs, having just missed out earlier in the day in the Women's Senior 2 event when she finished the course four seconds slower and lost to Hunt from Broxbourne by just two seconds.

Anna had another near miss in her Women's Elite Double Sculls when she paired up with Tess gaunt.

The first three home wee within one second of each other but the Loughborough crew unfortunately lost out to Leicester and Derwent.

In the men's categories, Loughborough were fielding a number of crews fro the first time.

Best placed on the day were the third placed Veteran C Coxed Four and Elite Coxed Four.

The Veteran C crew of Simon Hill, Keith Hudson, Neil Martin and Richard Hopkins, coxed by Charlie Horner, finished in a time of 7 mins 49 secs, whilst the Elite crew of Andy Wilbram, Rob Edmundson, Keith Hudson and Peter Hepworth, also coxed by Charlie Horner, completed the course in 7 mins 8 secs.
