Loughborough Boat Club

Loughborough Boat Club members tasted success again at Burton Regatta - and not only in the rowing events.

Thirteen of the Club's rowers helped make up the 20-person crew of a dragon boat and came out as Burton Dragon Boat Champions in their first ever attempt.

As club member Neil Martin explained "I decided to enter the event as my Company is actually called `Dragon Tools' so I enlisted the support of my follow rowers, even though we had never been  in a dragon boat".  The team won their first race by several boat lengths and they also gained comfortable leads over their opposition into further rounds.  The final provided a fitting spectacle as the 15 men and 5 women fought it out neck and neck with the all male `Phil Taylor Contracts' boat.

`Dragon Tools' managed a strong push and came home 6 feet ahead of their rivals, gaining them a place in the British Dragon Boat Championships later in the year.

The clubs women's senior two coxed four continued it's successful run with a double victory at the two day regatta

The crew of Caroline Lomax, Claire Wilson, Jo Coulson, Mary Carswell and cox Charlie Horner achieved a win by an impressive 3 lengths of the 1100m course against York City on Saturday and on the Sunday they managed a lengths lead over Leicester University on the shorter 450m course.

This means the crew has achieved 7 wins already this season in senior and veteran events and is keen to find a sponsor to help support them for a trip to the World Masters Regatta in Belgium in September.
