Loughborough Boat Club

Loughborough Boat Club produced a highly creditable showing in the Vesta Veterans Head on the river Thames last week over the same four and half mile Putney to Mortlake course that the university Boat Race is run over.

The event which is only open to rowers aged 30 and above, attracted more than 150 entries including some from as far a field as Germany and Italy.

The Loughborough crew of Alan Perry, Mike Lunn, Keith Hudson, Pete Hepworth, Richard Hopkins, Andy Martin, Simon Hill and Neil Martin, coxed by 15 year old Nick Robinson, came home in 20.18 to finish 47th overall and nearly half way in their age category.

"We have only just started working together as a crew so this performance is very encouraging" said Alan Perry club Vice Captain.  "We now hope to go on and gain some wins in the regatta season when it gets under way in a few months time".

Loughborough Boat Club is also hoping to take both it's Mens and Women's veteran rowing one step further as it plans a trip to the World Masters Championships in August.

There was also individual success for club member Anna Henderson who was selected to represent the East Midlands in the Women's Inter Regional Championships at the end of April.  Henderson fought off other competitors from her region to win her 2000m race by a comfortable four lengths in the race at Holme Pierrepont last week.
